Welcome, Baby A.

On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...

Hermit by COVID-19 impacts

So the world is suffering from numerous outbreaks of COVID-19. Countries have placed travel bans, experiencing shortages of medical resources, closed schools, urged social distancing, ordered temporary closure of businesses, and some local authorities have issued an order for residents to stay at home. Mr. L has started working from home and we're practicing social distancing. We cancelled game nights, house parties, and our trips to Japan and Germany. Since we'll continue to stay couped up at home, I thought this may be a good time to get back to my blog 😅

Last Friday, I went out to do my usual grocery shopping. It happened to be the same day that the country declared a national emergency due to the virus. One of the first things I noticed was that there were a lot of cars on the streets on a Friday afternoon (around 2pm) - this was unusual because before last Friday, post-4:30 was usually when people got off work/started their weekend, not 2pm! A car almost hit me because the driver was so eager to make it into the same parking lot I was heading into. There were a lot more shoppers, probably 3-4 times as many shoppers than usual. Also, more kids than usual.

Also...empty shelves! There were many shoppers with their carts filled like they were really stocking for months worth of supplies. It was also, a bit sad to say this, interesting to see what the shoppers' priorities were (at least on that day): some with carts filled with canned food while some had carts filled with beer and wine.  Also heard a man say "not enough beer" (his basket had a couple of 6-packs) and saw store managers roll up their sleeves to help store associates with stocking and cash registers as it was clear that the front-line employees were overwhelmed with sudden surges of customers.

I had trouble finding our usual go-to pasta noodles (ended up buying the more expensive ones because they were the only ones left), the store was out on canned vegetables/frozen vegetables/flour/rice basically food that don't go bad fast. I bought some fresh produce. Later on that day, Mr. L bought an extra bag of rice and some pet food on his way home, for just in case our state gets ordered to stay-at-home. We have always stocked some staple food, meat and basic hygiene supplies, so we're okay. Those who didn't stock basic supplies regularly and avoided going to the stores might have trouble buying what they need later on (especially when stores begin to trim hours)?

The local Costco stores have decided to allow customers to buy up to 2 of certain items (namely toilet papers and other in-demand supplies). Also, big retailers like WalMart and Home Depot changed operation hours in our neighborhood. For example, Home Depot closed at 6pm as of yesterday.

By the way, this pancake mix is great. The coconut flavor is spot on and the mix produce fluffy pancakes 😃😃😃

Earlier this week, our dental appointments got cancelled and we were told preventative care appointments are pushed back for a month. The medical center where I volunteer for also informed all volunteers to stop going in until further notice.

Since we're having a lot more time at home (because no plan and no reason to go out), one of the things we plan on doing is to work on our backyard! For instance, we're gonna plant a tree this week to celebrate our 1 year of having moved to Oregon 😊

Also got some flowers to plant 💗

Best wishes to those impacted by COVID-19. So sad to see and hear about so many premature deaths happening simultaneously caused by one single virus. Also sad and frustrating to see many people taking this moment to debate about who to blame instead of coming together to coordinate effectively. Hope the world recovers soon.
