On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. On April 11th, yesterday, I finally took a pregnancy test. You know, the little pink strip that detects for HCG in pee pee, aka internet cheapies.
4/11那天, 我終於驗孕了. 就是用那種 粉紅色測尿液中HCG的試紙.
I dipped the test strip in the cup for 10 seconds and laid it on a piece of toilet paper, set the timer for 3 minutes, then went on to my usual morning routine. I was calm and mumbled to myself "hmmm Iceland or New Orleans?" as I was brushing while staring at a pimple on my nose in the mirror.
When I was done brushing my teeth, I took a quick glance at the strip as I stored away the toothpaste and that's when I saw a slight tint of pink on the strip...next to the control line. It's no surprise to see a line for "C" as that's the control line, but a line next to the C....that means something else! At that point, I grabbed my glasses and stared at the strip until the timer went off. I held my phone in my hand and just stared at the strip for maybe a good minute. Then I thought, oh dang, take a picture!! Take another test tomorrow and compare the results!! So that's what I did!😃
試紙在尿杯裡沾了10秒後, 平放在一張衛生紙上, 手機鬧鐘設了3分鐘, 然後就去刷牙洗臉. 當時的心情很平靜 還邊刷牙邊盯著鏡子中的自己鼻子上的一顆痘痘想著"到底會去冰島還是New Orleans呢?"
刷完牙之後, 邊收牙刷的時候 邊瞄了一眼試紙 也是那時候突然看到一點點的粉紅色出現在C旁邊...C本身當然應該有線, 但是C旁邊還出現了一條很淡的粉紅色的線! 那當下, 真的是火速戴上眼鏡 然後一直盯著那張試紙直到手機的鬧鐘開始叫. 那時, 我一隻手拿著手機, 另一隻手拿著試紙 手機鬧鐘關掉後 還是一直瞪著著那張試紙大概又一分鐘. 然後才回過神 想著 照相!! 明天再測 然後比較試紙結果!! 然後我也就這樣做了😃
For a good 5 minutes or so, I debated whether to tell hubby right away or wait. On one hand, I wanted to tell him right away because it's what we've been waiting for! On the other hand, I wasn't sure HOW ACCURATE this test actually was! I still don't know how accurate it is! I mean, it's the first time I ever got a positive result! Also, I'm well aware many people have suffered early loss, and that awareness almost led me into thinking I shouldn't celebrate it or feel joyful just yet. After some excruciating moments of silence, I decided to tell him right away because I wanted to share every milestone with him. I did make a 6 seconds clip and sent it to him that morning, and that's how I told him 😂. The clip is just of pictures - nothing pregnancy-related and has no pictures of us. It's more of an inside joke about traveling. We made plans for going to Iceland this June and agreed on New Orleans to be our backup in case Iceland tightens its' travel restrictions or something happens we need to alter the plan. In the little clip, it began with flags of Iceland and New Orleans and the following texts "Iceland vs NOLA." The clip then showed "the winner is NOLA" with each word shown one at a time with pictures of iconic food in New Orleans. His immediate reaction while watching went from "Oh a video, nice video, wait why nola? Why changing to NOLA? Oh ohhhhhh ohhhhh Nola??? Nolaaaa????" The look of realization on hubby's face was priceless. It was fantastic. We're just so excited. Little did we know we'd be this excited!
照完照片後, 我在內心播放小劇場了大概五分鐘, 一直猶豫著要不要馬上告訴W. 一方面是想要馬上告訴他 因為這是我們在等的結果! 另一方面, 我不確定到底這個試紙有多準! 到現在也不確定它到底準不準! 這是我一輩子第一次驗到兩條線! 還有, 已經聽過許多人懷孕後卻發生不幸流產的經驗. 也是這個認知幾乎讓我覺得不該太早高興起來. 經過一段內心掙扎後, 我還是決定馬上告訴W, 因為我想要跟他分享人生的每個里程. 那天, 我做了一個6秒鐘小短片, 然後寄給他, 就是用那個小短片告訴他的 😂. 短片裡只有照片 - 完全沒有懷孕相關的資訊 也沒有一張是我們的照片. 這比較像是我們之間的小趣事 只有我們才懂得有關旅行的小玩笑. 我們早已計畫今年六月要去冰島旅行, 也決定若冰島的旅行政策有改變或有什麼事發生必須改變旅遊計畫的話, New Orleans則會是我們的第二選擇. 小短片的開頭就是 冰島國旗 和 New Orleans的旗 以及"冰島VS New Orleans" 這幾個字. 接著, 短片以一次只秀出一個字的方式來播放 "the winner is NOLA" (意思是 贏家是NOLA [NOLA是New Orleans Louisiana的縮寫]), 且每撥放一個字的時候, 背景是NOLA當地經典食物照片. W看這個短片時的反應變化是"喔 一個影片, 做得不錯, 等等 為什麼是NOLA? 為什麼變成NOLA了?? 喔?? 喔喔喔 喔喔 NOLA??? NOLAAAAA???" 他意識到這個短片的意義時的臉上表情變化超無價 哈哈哈. 我們很興奮! 完全沒料到會這麼興奮!
Today I took another pregnancy test. This time I took a "real test" (a stick). It's still positive! So we called the doctor's office (we use Kaiser) and scheduled our first 3 prenatal appointments at once. The guy we spoke with told us we'll make the rest of the appointments during the 2nd appointment.

Many hospitals and clinics have changed how they go about prenatal appointments due to COVID precautions. The location I use, for example, has half of the prenatal appointments going virtual, unless special care is needed.

My first prenatal appointment will be on April 19th, exactly a week from today. It'll be a virtual appointment...I'm disappointed to be scheduled for a virtual appointment but at the same time, I already knew the first in-person check-up has usually been around 7th-9th week in the states, so it's not really a surprise to me that I won't get any bloodwork or scan until then. I was told to expect this appointment to last around 45 minutes. This appointment is just with a nurse, no doctor or physician will be involved yet. The nurse will go over some questions (symptoms, medical history) and complete an intake with me.

The second appointment is scheduled for May 17th. This would be our first in-person prenatal appointment. I'll be a little over 9 weeks pregnant! I'll be seen by a physician assistant I've never met. During this visit, there will be a pelvic exam and a breast exam, and maybe an ultrasound (well, I'm expecting one and fetal heartbeat!)? The guy over the phone didn't tell me when I'll have the first ultrasound, but after reading what many moms have shared, I'm seriously expecting to have one in that first in-person appointment.
第二個產檢預約在5/17. 這會是我們第一次"面對面"的產檢. 那時候我應該已經是懷孕9週囉! 第二次的產檢會是給一位醫生助理看. 這次會做骨盆腔檢查跟胸部觸診(我認為這次也該有超音波了 還有胎心音應該也會有). 電話裡幫忙預約的男生並沒有提到我什麼時候會做第一次的超音波檢查, 不過在讀過許多媽媽們的經驗分享後, 我是真的期望那第一次的會診這些都會有.
The ob we prefer to see is almost all booked out so it's hard to get in any appointment with her, even though the KP website shows she's taking in new patients 👀. So she is taking in new patients, but she's busy! The third appointment, a virtual appointment again, will be on June 17th (seems so far out!), and this will be our first time to "see" our ob, through a webcam!!

Bloating. My stomach felt bloated before, during, and after eating during the last few days before testing.
Noticed extra CM (cervical mucus) especially when I just woke up in the morning

Woke up early without alarms several days in a row (I was never an early bird by choice)
Sharp pain in left breast around 6-8 DPO (days post ovulation)
驗孕前 有發現什麼徵狀?
肚子脹脹的. 是吃東西前, 正在吃, 跟吃完 都感到脹脹的, 這個狀況從驗孕前好幾天就開始持續發生.
有注意到比較多的分泌物, 尤其是早上剛起床時.
月經該來的那天 來了蛋清分泌物
分泌物夾帶著一點點黃色
鬧鐘還沒響, 我就自動很早醒來 完全睡不著了 這個狀況連續很多天(之前的我 可是一直以來都不是早起的鳥阿)
大約排卵的6-8天後, 左胸部有很明顯的刺痛
New symptoms since you took a pregnancy test?
Extra tiredness? So far it's been the same like PMS symptoms: feeling bloated, cramp in the lower abdominal area, feeling "wet" down there when I wake up in the morning. Egg white CM & yellow-ish color of it is news to me as I've never had egg white CM this late of a cycle (that's usually just around a week after a period, about time for ovulation) and I've never seen yellowish CM before this cycle 👀.
驗孕之後 有哪些新的徵狀嗎?
特別的累 目前的感覺像是月經快來那樣: 肚子感到脹脹的, 下腹有些經痛的感覺, 剛起床時覺得下面濕濕的. 帶一絲絲黃色蛋清般的分泌物對我來說很新鮮, 因為我以前從沒有在週期那麼晚了還出現蛋清分泌物(過去都是月經走後約一星期才有, 就是快排卵時才開始有). 之前也沒見過戴著一咪咪黃色的分泌物👀

So how long have you been trying?
We conceived on our 4th cycle of trying. We began our TTC journey in December 2020. I also started tracking ovulation with OPK in January and that's when I realized we "did it" on the wrong days in December 😄.

Did you track BBT (basal body temperature)? If so, what was your chart like?
Yes, though this cycle also happens to be the one I "let loose" with my BBT tracking. My chart for this cycle is included below, and it looks wacky. I received 2nd dose of COVID vaccine this cycle and actually had many reactions, including a fever of 102, so I knew the chart would look odd by then already. Then my sleep pattern started to get wacky - woke up early, went to bed earlier/later than usual. So sometimes I skipped tempting because it just wasn't going to be reliable anyway, and sometimes I took it 1-3 hours earlier/later than usual.
有做基礎體溫測量嗎? 如果有的話, 圖表大概長怎樣?
有, 不過這個週期剛好我給自己在基礎體溫檢查這邊"特別鬆懈." 我的體溫圖表附在下面. 這個週期我打了第二針的COVID疫苗, 而且身體反應滿多的, 甚至還發燒到了102度, 所以當時就知道這次的圖表會被打亂. 接著我的睡眠狀態也變亂 - 越來越早醒, 有時變很早睡 有時候晚睡, 有時早或晚1-3小時量. 那時我有幾次起床就乾脆跳過不量基礎體溫, 因為自己也知道那幾天的數據也不會準確.
