On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...
On week 16, I did a lot of home organization and sorted a bunch of old documents like taxes etc. I'm not sure if this is what the internet refers to as "nesting" 😅. Also, I started sorting items to donate, throw away, and to put on Facebook Marketplace.
Lunar New Year also happened during Week 16. W made a great Lunar New Year brunch for us! It was a nice spread, albeit I couldn't enjoy everything as much as I wanted as I had to run to the bathroom almost just 10 minutes after taking a bite of everything.
We took Duke out to Lowami Hart Woods on the weekend and W caught a funny picture of me doing a who-knows-what-I-was-doing 😂
Week 17 was when I had two dental deep cleaning appointments. Two cleaning appointments because they said they could only clean one side at a time (right side first then left side). The day before the 1st appointment and the days of the appointments were actually stressful because there was a lot of confusion right before I went in.
About a month before the 1st cleaning appointment, I called and informed the office about my pregnancy. I thought to check in with the office despite the fact that the guideline I received from my ob office said dental cleaning is generally fine and strongly encouraged. I also asked if I could move both appointments to the same week just for easier logistics. The lady on the phone from the dental office responded with "we can't, cleaning must be done a week apart" and acted like they didn't need anything and said my appointments were to be kept the same. I asked specifically if there was anything extra on my end that I needed to prepare for before the appointments. Then, fast forward to the day before the 1st cleaning appointment, someone from the dental office called and asked to change my appointment from afternoon to morning - I said ok and casually mentioned again that I was 17 weeks pregnant and that my morning sickness had become evening sickness so an early appointment actually worked better. The person on the phone then told me "oh, we'll need a medical clearance from your ob before you come in tomorrow." Needless to say, I was shocked to hear about it so last minute (given that I've specifically told them about the pregnancy a month prior). I tried to reach my ob (who was of course busy) and left messages and the dental office tried to reach my ob as well. There was a lot of going back and forth between the dental office & me, me & hospital, and dental office & hospital but it was clear that I couldn't get a medical clearance from my ob so last minute. I asked my dental office what to do if no letter by the morning of the cleaning appointment, the receptionist told me to call back right before the appointment just to confirm if there's a letter or not, and if no letter by then, we'd just reschedule. I said ok.
So the next morning, I called. The same receptionist answered and told me "actually, the dentist and the hygienist said it's fine to still come in without a letter since it's just a cleaning. We'll update the file once you have the letter." So I went in and they gave me a form to bring to my next ob appointment to get signed and told me to just return the signed letter whenever I could. Right after I finished that 1st cleaning, as I was stepping out of the office, I got a reply from my ob office. My ob had prepared a clearance letter for me, using the hospital's format not the form from the dental office. I tried to download it from the patient portal app but there were technical difficulties...eventually, I decided to just pick it up in person the next day and I did. Then, just as I got home with the letter, W and I each received a call where W's cleaning appointment for that day was canceled due to an emergency with the hygienist (the call came just 15 minutes before he was going to leave for the appointment) and that they'd like to move my 2nd cleaning appointment a week sooner (from a week later to the next morning). I was a bit overwhelmed with so many sudden changes/requests surrounding getting my teeth cleaned. Knowing the next available appointment was going to be at least 2 months out, I took it. So I went back the next day and got my other half of the teeth cleaned. I also brought in the letter from my ob and asked if that was sufficient. The answer's yes! I felt relieved! My hygienist wanted me to go back for a routine cleaning around late June but I declined. I told them I don't want to lie on the exam bed/chair when I'm that late into my pregnancy. So we agreed I'll just go back a month postpartum.
Whew, boy I am so glad to have my teeth cleaned! I mean, they weren't dirty or causing problems, it's just a good feeling to have it checked 😂.
Another thing that happened during week 17 was we received the baby registry welcome box from Amazon! I'll share more about what's in the box in a later post! I have since received goody bags from other retailers and will share about all that we received in a separate post!
