Welcome, Baby A.

On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...

[Pregnancy Diary] Week 13 - 24-Hour Urine Protein Test

So in the last post I shared about having received a "24 hour urin collection kit" from our last prenatal visit. I was going to do it on Sunday but then realized Monday was a holiday. This meant the lab was closed for Monday. The urine sample needed to be dropped off asap after being collected so I waited 1 more day to do it. I did it on Monday, Jan 17, also Martin Luther King Day and dropped off the sample on Jan 18.
The kit came with a big orange jar (container for the urine sample), a sample collector (that plastic bowl), a plastic bag (as a bag for the orange jar? that's what I used it for), a sheet of instructions, and a paper bag to hold everything.

The instructions were straightforward. I read it while I was at the lab picking up the kit. The tech also asked me to read everything while I was there and told me the most important things were (1) discard the first pee-pee in the morning but write down the time as the start of the 24 hour window, and (2) keep the collected sample in a fridge or a cooler. Our cooler is too small so we kept it in the fridge 😂

There was no restriction on diet, just eat & drink normally as I would and collect the urine sample for the entire 24 hour period (except that first batch from the morning). The process of collection was simple. Pee in the plastic bowl, dump the urine from the plastic bowl to the orange jar, then put the jar back in the fridge. So for that day, I carried an orange jar with me in and out of the bathroom 😆 Also, W said "he had to" order takeout for dinner because he just had no motivation to cook because all he could see when he opened the fridge was my big orange jar of urine 😅
I dropped off the sample on Tuesday, Jan 18. There was a form that needed to be filled out at the drop-off table just outside of the lab. The tech had told me about it so I took one form home with me on Jan 14 and pre-filled it so it was one less thing to do on Jan 18.

The lab results came back the next day. Everything was fine. All numbers were within normal ranges. The ob messaged me and said everything's looking good!
