Welcome, Baby A.

On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...

[Pregnancy Diary] Weeks 10 -12 Not Morning, but All Day Sickness

Weeks 10-12 have been like a blur. My morning sickness, aka all-day sickness, became manageable by taking B6 religiously (every 8 hours). B6 didn't work immediately, it was only about 2-3 days after having taken it every 8 hours that I started to feel some relief! I started having an appetite again in the morning, though nausea still came back strong every late afternoon and lasted through the evening. W joked that 8am-12pm was my "golden age" and 4pm and beyond was my "dark period." 😵

Not much was done during this period. Every day was a routine of pretty much the same things. Some days I could go out to walk Duke once a day, sometimes I could push myself to do it twice a day. Some days I just had to stay in bed constantly because of how nauseous and tired I was. Looking back on my phone, I didn't take many notes or pictures during these weeks. I just felt miserable 😩. On a good day, my day was like this.
wake up
eat
do something for 1-2 hours
eat
walk Duke
do something for 1 hour
try to eat a snack or skip if really can't stomach
nap/try rest through the queasiness
nausea
try to eat dinner or just drink something if can't stomach anything
nausea
play computer games with W and friends
walk Duke with W while feeling nauseous
more nausea/watch a show or something with W
sleep
Here are some pictures I took during this period. Most are just food that I had for breakfast/lunch. I tried to have variety, but some days it was really hard to eat and not feel "odd" because I often had a metallic taste, or just a weird aftertaste from chewing something.
whole-wheat toast, walnuts, boiled egg, and greek yogurt

stir fry vegetables with shrimps, walnuts, orange, sparkling water

Not food, just my arm lol. This was 5 days after the 4 blood draws for gestational diabetes screening. Could still see a bruise there. It took more than a week for it to go away.

Christmas brunch. We ordered a Christmas meal from a grocery store and just heated everything up. I had a full plate that morning and felt so nauseous later that night, but Christmas morning was great 😁

One of our Christmas cards for this year.

Homemade berry smoothie with pomegranate seeds

Dried cantaloupes & macadamia, pickles, whole wheat toast with avocado spread, sauteed greens, salmon pattie, and berry smoothie

Macadamia, pomegranate seeds, orange juice, turkey bacon sandwich with whole wheat toasts & scrambled eggs & spinach.

Waffle sandwich with chicken sausage & scrambled eggs and spinach, macadamia nuts

W and I shared these two plates. Baked wings and sauteed salad....(I was concerned with store-bought salad kit, so decided to sautee everything, this turned out alright, had kale, broccoli, pea sprouts, pumpkin seeds, and cranberries)

Dinner often was just a glass of something (coconut water, juice) with light snacks (walnuts, beef jerky, 1/2 slice of toast). I'm definitely grateful for the existence of B6!!
