On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. This winter, we welcomed a new rice cooker to our home. Our old electric rice cooker was a gift from over 5 years ago and it has served us well. We decided it was time for an upgrade! Originally we were interested in a couple models from Zojirushi - a Japanese brand known for making great kitchen appliances including rice cookers. Upon research from reading numerous reviews on Amazon and other blog sites, we decided to go with Cuckoo - a Korean brand that also makes small home appliances, with good reviews, notably well known for rice cookers.
今年冬天, 我們家歡迎了一台新的電飯鍋. 舊的飯鍋是五年多以前收到的禮物 也用得很勤奮. 我們也終於覺得該是時候換一台了! 原本很有興趣的幾台是來自Zojirushi - 是日本很著名的家電產品的製造商 當然也包含了電飯鍋. 後來網路上研究一段時間 又查看了很多Amazon上的使用者心得跟部落客的分享後, 我們決定選擇Cuckoo - 同樣也是製造家電用品的一個韓國品牌 口碑也不錯, 特別是電飯鍋這類產品.

We used it the day after having received this new Cuckoo rice cooker. I used it to make gaba rice! I was so eager to make gaba rice at home so I ...actually bought a bag of gaba rice before the rice cooker had arrived. I even ordered a rice strainer for the first time 😃 I've never used a rice strainer, always just washed rice in the inner pot of the rice cooker. This time, I wanted to try something new with regards to rice cooking and I'm glad I did! I think the rice strainer is very convenient in washing rice and never worry about rice falling out while washing rice.
收到Cuckoo電鍋的隔天就馬上開用了. 我用它做了gaba(發芽米)飯! 我超期待在家做gaba飯 其實在電鍋寄到家之前就先去買了一袋gaba米! 甚至還事先買了一個洗米盆! 在這之前我從沒用過專門洗米的盆子, 過去都是直接在飯鍋的內鍋洗米. 這次, 想嘗試新的煮米方式, 也很高興這樣做了! 自己覺得洗米盆很方便, 洗米的時候也不用擔心米會被水沖走😃
The "gaba rice" setting includes 3 hours of soaking rice in the pot...and then it began cooking. The rice turned out very, very delicious! I dare to say it's one of the best pot of rice we've made in our home!

Gaba rice setting did leave a bit of "starch film" on the bottom of the pot, but it was super easy to clean. Literally just rinse with water and wipe with a clean towel.
Cuckoo P0609S is designed for multi-function pressure rice cooker. There are many presets and, accordingly, it can make a variety of rice including sushi rice, chicken soup, porridge, ferment bread/yogurt/cheese, and many more. I look forward to experiment more with it and maybe will share some recipes with use of our new Cuckoo 😎
用新電鍋的"gaba米"的選項煮米後 內鍋底部有一些透明的澱粉薄膜, 不過這很容易清理. 內鍋只要用水沖過, 然後用乾淨毛巾擦一下就清理完畢了. 這台Cuckoo P0609S電子飯鍋被設計為多功能使用的煮飯壓力鍋. 有許多內建功能, 可以煮很多種米, 包含壽司米, 也能煮雞湯, 粥, 麵包優格起司發酵 跟其他很多用法. 我很期待用它來做很多料理的實驗, 也許將來也會分享一些用Cuckoo電鍋做的食譜 😎
Our old rice cooker from Aroma was also a "multi-function" rice cooker. We've used it to make white rice, brown rice, stew, curry, chowder, and used it to steam for many things before the inner pot began to wear off (look at those scratch marks) and started to overcook on things.
我們的舊飯鍋是Aroma的 同樣也是個多功能飯鍋. 之前用它煮過白飯, 糙米飯, 燉煮東西過, 也煮過咖哩, 濃湯, 跟蒸過不少東西, 直到內鍋開始被消耗(看看那些刮痕)跟煮焦底部東西.
Here's for comparison between Instant Pot, Cuckoo, and Aroma. Personally, I think Instant Pot is easier for grab & moving around. Size-wise, Instant Pot also visually looks a lot bigger than the other two. Rice-cooking wise, of course the new pot wins taste and texture.
這邊用照片來比較一下這三個鍋 Instant Pot (壓力鍋), Cuckoo, 和Aroma. 個人覺得Instant Pot比其他兩個鍋方便"拿起來"移動. 用外表看, Instant Pot比其他兩個大很多. 煮飯方面, 當然新的鍋在味道口感方面都獲勝
It's been less than 2 weeks since we began using Cuckoo. So far so good! Also, I find the fact that this rice cooker "talks" quite amusing. It's something I've seen in Korean drama before, and hadn't thought of seeing "a talking rice cooker" at home before making this purchase haha.
Cuckoo電飯鍋目前在我們家快2個星期了. 目前我們很滿意! 還有, 我覺得它會"說話"其實還滿有趣的. 之前在韓劇看過這種畫面, 在我們買了這台之前 倒是沒想過在自己家也會有"飯鍋說話"這一天 哈哈!
