Welcome, Baby A.

On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...

Commonwealth Lake Park

Last weekend, we went to a park in Beaverton. It was called Commonwealth Lake Park. The lake, apparently was manmade, wasn't very big but it was very peaceful and calming. We walked around the lake and saw a lot of wildlife there - birds, geese, ducklings, and squirrels.
Duke seemed excited to be at this park. It was our first time here and it's only about 20 minutes drive from home.
About halfway into circling around the park, W and I talked about how the lake reminded us of Windsor Lake, the lake that was behind our house in Colorado. Windsor Lake was bigger, but the vibe was very similar.
The park was not heavily trafficked, though almost everywhere we looked, there were 1 or 2 people. There were a few groups of family gatherings, maybe birthday parties. There were people walking along with their doggos and small groups of friends sitting and chatting by the lake. We also saw several 2-3 people groups fishing (with success). People walked, laughed, and chatted without masks. In a way, it was as if COVID never happened. It was somewhat surreal like time just got turned back to when we were still in Colorado. By any means, it was a nice day at the lake.
While walking by the lake, we came across two guys whose poles just got hooked. W and I were never into fishing, but it was still exciting to see action in person.
This man was teaching the other guy how to unhook and they released the fish back to the lake.
This lake also got several bridges. I have an unexplained interest in bridges. Not sure why, but I always loved looking at them and walking on them. 💛
The trail around the lake was fully paved. The whole path was flat, with no incline, so it was easy to walk and stroll Beibei's carrier around.
The weather was great too. It was a super sunny day out. Luckily the lake is surrounded by trees so there was always some shade around. I think it's obvious that we really enjoyed our day at the lake. ♒
Among the trees, I found this particular tree pretty cool-looking. The trunk was short but the many branches it had sprouted out made it look altogether interesting to look at.

At one point, Duke stood like a statue and stared into the bush. So I walked closer and bent down to see what he was looking at. As it turned out, he found a little goose? Not sure if it was a baby goose, but it was a baby bird for sure. It had feathers that looked extra furry on its head. The baby bird didn't move away during the entire time we were near it.
At some point, this baby bird turned around and looked at us - at me, Duke, and Beibei and just looked at us curiously but didn't go away.

We didn't see any adult bird nearby so maybe the adult was out fishing/hunting. We watched the baby bird while it watched us for some time and then we got back on the trail.
After seeing several flocks of wildlife while strolling on the trail, Duke became less excited upon seeing them. Eventually, he just ignored any new bird he saw. 🐶
Beibei, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy the view of birds. The carrier has a built-in leash with a hook that can get attached to any ring. So I opened the top of the carrier and used the hook to attach her collar to the built-in leash of the carrier so she could still move around and poke her head out if wanted to and not worry about her running off. Throughout the entire afternoon, though, she never once tried to get out of the carrier. She loves it so much and voluntarily walks into it at night to sleep in there, every single night. I think she thinks it's her safe space, which is great, though I still attach the hook onto her collar when the top of the carrier is open just to be on the safe side.
The day at the lake was great. I'm sure we'll head back again soon!
Also, one obvious benefit of a walk by the lake (or anywhere outside) is Duke always comes home tired with his typical "after-walk look" on his face which soon translates to "I'm ready for a nap." 😎 Anyone with doggos know a tired doggo is a great doggo.
