On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...

On Feb 22, we had the 4th prenatal checkup at Westside. The checkup went by very quickly (less than 15 minutes). We listened to baby's heartbeat and that was pretty much it, the rest of the time was just getting blood pressure checked and a couple of general Q&A (e.g., how are you feeling? how's nausea? any changes to medication?)

| During the checkup, Dr. Dantas showed us this chart - which shows how little of weight gain I've had so far. The "0" on the Y-axis represents my starting weight from pre-pregnancy checkup. The black dots represent where my numbers were during each of the prenatal visits (3 records because the first visit was virtual). My numbers were actually lower than what's shown on the chart because I wore winter jacket & boots when I stood on the scale during weigh-ins. Dr. Dantas said ideally, she'd like to see me somewhere between the green & blue lines. However, morning sickness does take a toll on weight gain so it's normal to start with very little weight gain, or in my case, weight loss in the beginning. She's not worried, but she did put a note on my file that states "low weight gain during first trimester." |
After the checkup was done, we went back home to wait for the next appointment - my COVID booster shot. On the way home, we got McDonald's for breakfast and my oh my, what everyone has said about fast food tasting super good while pregnant is true 😆! That McGriddle was awesome hahaha! The strawberry banana smoothie was yum too and I didn't get any heartburn afterward!

We watched Netflix while having breakfast and then back to Kaiser. I got my shot at Kaiser Sunset, which is a clinic and it's right next to Westside (the hospital we have our prenatal visits at). Since it's just a booster shot, we knew it'd be quick so we brought Duke with us this time 🐶. We think Duke enjoyed the car ride :)! W and Duke waited in the car/parking lot while I was at the clinic.

I was a bit nervous about this COVID booster because I developed a fever and felt awful for a few days after the second shot last year. Luckily, this time, the booster didn't give me any fever. I remember feeling extra tired that day so I took a long nap that afternoon and woke up with a headache, but really, it wasn't anything worse than just that headache. I mean, I had a sore shoulder/arm for 2 days. That was it, just a couple hours of a headache and a sore arm for 2 days. Very grateful and feel good to know I've got extra protection against COVID 😊

| After I received the shot, I was instructed to wait at a waiting area for 15 minutes - in case there's any reaction and they'd be able to assist if things happen. While waiting, I met an adorable therapy doggo. He was so cuddly and made the wait time nice and sweet! |
This week marks the 18th week of pregnancy. We also received our first big-ticket item! The stroller! I had been eyeing Nuna strollers for a while. I watched so so so many videos and read so many reviews on so so so many strollers. I finally decided on Nuna Triv and ordered one during President's Sale weekend from Nordstorm. This was $399 after a markdown of $100. I'm so excited to use this stroller this summer!

Lastly, my boy Duke has been super clingy and I always see him next to me whenever I'm in bed, or anywhere in the house. He's a very dutiful guardian 💖
