Welcome, Baby A.

On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...

[Pregnancy Diary] Week 23 Flu Shot, Pediatrician, IKEA, and Babymoon!

Week 23 was packed with activities! We finally decided on a pattern for the wallpaper we'll be using for the nursery (very excited)! After countless back & forth between different vendors (and getting quotes from different sellers on custom sizing), I ordered our top pick from Etsy and it's currently still en route even after nearly a month (being shipped from England). My guess is COVID is still affecting international shipments, plus the war (Russia's invasion of Ukraine) that's happening in Europe at the moment.
Symptoms-wise, I got some more energy this week. I still got sciatica (shooting pain in the back of my upper right leg, and my gosh my butt is constantly in pain), but I had the energy to walk more. We walked Duke more and saw the cherry blossoms in our neighborhood. Spring is definitely here!

Also, I finally removed the cover of our keyboard and started practicing playing it again 😆 It's been...years? Haha I'm so rusty but I've got the best audience - Duke! He could nap through my off-keys like nothing hahahahaha. We also visited IKEA this week on a whim in search of my dream dresser for the nursery - a Hemnes. Welp, it was out of stock. We didn't leave the store empty-handed. We got snacks, sparkling juice, and Swedish meatballs hahahahaha!

A "milestone" we had this week was - we went on our babymoon! New Orleans during week 23 has a significant meaning for us. Partly because week 23 is considered fetal viability in some places (some consider week 24 as fetal viability). Another reason of significance is because last year, when I was still carrying the twins, we had talked about going to New Orleans for babymoon. We ended up deciding on Iceland for babymoon and said to save New Orleans for after the twins were born. However, we lost the twins. We took ashes and scattered them in Iceland in September instead and never went to New Orleans last year.
The weekend before New Orleans, we visited Sunset Clinic to get our flu shots. Truth be told, I wasn't planning on getting the flu shot this early (I was thinking to get it during the third trimester). But, given the fact that we were traveling by plane and that my OB highly recommended that I get one before traveling, we made appointments online and both got one. W has never had a flu shot as an adult and I've only had it once while I was in college. I had not-so-great experience with the flu shot I had that time - sweats, very sore arm, body ache, and flu-like symptoms. Luckily, this time, both of us had just one very minimal side effect - a sore arm no less!
Alright, so back to New Orleans! Our trip to New Orleans was great! It took about a week for planning and we happened to visit exactly a week after the city's been hit by a deadly tornado (there were significant damages not just in New Orleans, but in surrounding areas in the mid-south as well and I was worried about flight cancellations). We got tornado warnings just hours after landing in New Orleans. Grateful we still got to visit this charming city and had a ton of fun. The trip deserves a post of its own so that'll come up sometime later 😂
