Welcome, Baby A.

On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...

[Pregnancy Diary] Week 22 Prenatal Appt #5, Infant Car Seat, IKEA, Gender Reveal Prepping

We went back to Westside on March 17 for our 5th prenatal checkup. We were about 5 minutes late to the appointment because we had trouble finding parking - had to park on the 3rd floor (usually we parked on the 1st floor). We then waited for our ob for about 20 minutes. She came in and said because she hadn't seen us checked in, so she went ahead to see another patient before coming to see us. It's fine. We understood it's because we were late. Then, when it was time for a nurse to come in and schedule for our next appointments, she kept on using words like "so you'll be on time" and "do you think you can make it on time" - she was constantly reminding us of us being late that day! It was down right annoying!! We were 5 minutes late because their parking garage was packed, we were not like 15 or 30 minutes late. And THEY (ob and nurse) always had us wait in the lobby for 15-20 minutes anyway, just not this time. I never once complained they were late and kept us waiting. Also, this nurse told us she wanted to reschedule an appointment that we had already made. Our original 7th prenatal checkup was going to be 3 weeks from the 6th prenatal checkup. She changed it to 4 weeks after. I told her that was because there's a 5 week gap between the 5th & 6th checkups. Also, I told her that I remember it's recommended to have a checkup every 3 weeks once I reach 28 weeks. This nurse had the audacity to say "no, you get seen every 4 weeks until when you're 36 weeks then it's every 2 weeks." I'm not a doctor, but I'm positive she's wrong because I know for a fact pregnant patients get seen every week after they're 37 weeks at my hospital. That's what my ob told us, also, that's just for regular, normal, low-risk pregnancy. I'm high-risk and have already agreed to an induction at 37 or 38 weeks due to medical reasons. My past after-visit reports have clearly stated that I will be seen every 3 weeks after 28 weeks, then every 1-2 weeks after 34 weeks depending on progress. Another thing that bugged me was the same nurse left us alone while having me hooked for BP reading. She didn't even wait for one minute to see what the reading was. She just left the room to check on another patient. I get the hospital might be short-staffed and everyone is busy. But, it still doesn't excuse the odd feeling of being left alone while being hooked to things. She came back 10 minutes later and asked me "do you remember what your reading was?" Good thing I took a picture of it, because I always document my own visit.
The actual ob visit was the same as usual - quick 5 minutes of chit chat, listening to the heartbeat, and a few minutes of Q&A. During this visit, our doctor brought up the topic of pediatricians. She said it's a good time to start looking for one. We took the advice to heart and began searching!

That same evening, we had our "virtual hospital tour" with Westside. It was about an hour-long and we found it pretty informative. I was under the impression that the hospital we chose had all-in-one Labor & Delivery & Recovery rooms (LDR). Apparently not. Apparently, it's "give birth at a Labor & Delivery room and rest for 2-4 hours then relocate to Postpartum/Recovery room for 1-2 nights [depending on how delivery went]."

Overall, the hospital tour was good. I still wish it was in-person because it'd be nice to be able to walk around inside the building and see exactly where to go when it's go-time.
A day after the hospital tour, we sent out invitations for our "BBBB," aka "Bbq, beer, baby, and board games!" It's basically a babyque and.....we'll find out the sex of baby by a gender reveal cake 💝 After sending out the invitations, we went to Portland and bought an infant car seat (1 big-ticket item down, woohoo!) We chose Nuna Pipa and it's compatible with the stroller (Nuna Triv) we had purchased from Dillard's. After picking up the infant car seat, we went to IKEA on a whim to check out their stage rooms for nurseries. I already knew I wanted to get a Hemnes dresser and add a changing station on the top (saw this on Pinterest and just love this concept). I had measured the room we intend on using as our nursery so many times and had an idea of where to place each furniture piece but I still wanted to see the dresser in person and TOUCH IT (if that makes sense haha 😆). Welp, we saw the dresser I'm so in love with, along with our "backup picks," and everything was out of stock 😵! We were told things would be in stock a week after. So we left the store with nothing but a full belly. I gotta say, those Sweedish meatballs paired with lingonberry jam is the bomb!
