Welcome, Baby A.

On Baby A's birthday, the c-section surgery went as planned. I walked into the OR around 9:30am and was pushed out around 2 hours later. W was instructed to wait outside while the team was getting me prepared for anesthesia. He then got invited to come in and sat next to me while the team worked on getting Baby A out of me 😂. W was a good DJ and Baby A was born while Taylor Swift's Shake It Off was being played. So...did I feel any pain during this life-changing surgery? No, I didn't. I had a spinal block. I never felt any type of pain during the surgery. Getting the anesthesia injected - however - was the most uncomfortable part of the surgery. There was a lot of pressure. I felt my back being pulled or pushed, or something. It just felt very uncomfortable, not painful, but very uncomfortable. It was also hard to try leaning toward the source of that uncomfortableness. Learning to relax while being uncomfortable was a very hard thing to do. But it was necessary. Once it...

[Pregnancy Diary] Week 27 Gender Reveal Babyque

We had our gender reveal BaByQue on April 23!
I picked 2 bunches of flowers (1 bunch of tulips and 1 bunch of mixed flowers) and W picked 1 potted purple flowers from Trader Joe's the day before. I rearranged the two bunches into 4 vases. I think they were lovely!
The night before the bbq, W spent a good chunk of time working on the new outdoor table we got from IKEA. I think it took him 2 hours to set it up? Duke and Lulu watched carefully as they inspected W's handyman work 😂
The morning of the bbq was kinda chaotic...we were ambitious in preparing 5 sides and 1 vegan meat between 11am-1pm. We also needed to get bags of ice for drinks & beer. Oh, and the pick up time for the cake was 8am, and the pick-up time for the brisket & grilled meats was at 12:15pm. There was just a lot of things going on all happening that same morning, even though everything had been planned for for over a month. On the invitation to our guests, we said the party was to go from 1-7pm (and half of our guests showed up after 4pm).
There were some ups & downs the day of, but overall, it was great! Some of the downs include....(1) had to get a new griller last minute, (2) spilled some of the things that we got from Dickie's BBQ, and (3) the decorations I got from Amazon came without attachments so I had to improvise last minute. So the morning of the bbq, we found out our griller was in no good shape for grilling because there was just a lot of rust. W tried to scrub them off, but in the end we didn't want to risk it, so he went to Dick's Sporting Goods to pick up an almost identical griller just a couple of hours before our first guest showed up. The old griller was a gift from W's previous job and has served us every summer since 2017. This new griller is a newer model of the same griller, and W got it in red, which I like 😀!
All of the food turned out great (I think)! The sides, the meats from Dickie's, the cake, and even the drinks! It was a bit disappointing that I couldn't eat for as long as I wanted or make more plates later with guests because I had to be diligent with when & how much I put on my plate for my diet-controlled gestational diabetes. I was instructed to aim for just 15 minutes of mealtime so....realistically I was only able to eat so much. I did finish everything on the plate below, and some more meat (gimme more protein haha)!
Selfie with some of the guests. The weather was super nice. It was actually pretty warm outside.
The cake was light and the sweetness level was just right - in my opinion hehe. I don't like things too sweet and this cake was just right for me. We received many compliments from our guests too - everyone seemed to have enjoyed this cake 💝
Our instructions for the bakery was "blueberries for boy and strawberries for girl." The big reveal was - strawberries! So we're having a girl!😎
